School Starts Soon

Olney I. S. D. will be kicking off the new school year for 2008 - 2009 very soon. Band and football practice has already begun their workouts. Teachers and other staff members will start on Monday, August 18th with an appreciation breakfast at the Civic Center at 8:00 a.m. Students will start on Monday, August 25th the first bell will ring at 7:55 a.m. The new school calendar is up on the website, so check it out for a list of all student holidays and TAKS test dates. Football schedules will be up as soon as possible.
This summer has been a busy one with a lot of improvements. Not only has maintenance been cleaning up and painting to make things look shiny and new, but they have also been doing some remodeling. The old band hall (the round building at the end of the old gym) is going to be the new music room for elementary. The old field house is going to house the new school resource officer. The high school is in the process of getting new tiled halls, carpet in the classrooms, and the lockers have been painted "Cub Red". Promethean ActivBoards are also being installed on each campus: four in elementary for a total of eight ActivBoards, two in junior high for a total of six ActivBoards and two in high school who will also have a total of six ActivBoards. Be sure to ask your student about them!
