Novels

Skills

  • Comprehension- understanding what you read
  • Fluency- reading accurately at an appropriate rate
  • Vocabulary- learning the meaning of new words and using them correctly in everyday language in the form of reading, writing and speaking
  • Oral Language Skills- developing speaking skills through book reports and presentations

Homework

  • Read 20 minutes five nights a week.  Record reading on home reading log.
  • Complete daily skills activity in yellow folder.  Each student has a homework schedule in the folder.  Each assignment will be graded daily and a homework average will be recorded weekly.

Grading

  • Fluency- oral fluency grades weekly
  • Comprehension- weekly tests over novels read in class
  • Vocabulary- vocabulary grades weekly
  • Homework- averaged homework grades weekly
  • Notebook- one notebook grade- each test must be present and signed by a guardian; completed word of the day calendar
