"SWAT" Team
Olney High School Academic UIL Team
It's a new year that's full of changes and opportunities for Olney's Academic UIL team.
Starting with me, Sara Williams. I am the new Academic Coordinator. I have taught at Olney High School for the past two years. I am excited for this new opportunity to engage the students of Olney High School in learning that will influence them for a lifetime.
This year's UIL participants are Olney's newest "SWAT" Team. Thanks to Mr. Scotte Clark we have a new motto- "So Win At This" or SWAT. One of the newest additions is the weekly Wednesday lunch meeting in the high school kitchen. This is a great time for all UIL participants to socialize with other students and coaches who share their enthusiasm for UIL. This is also the scheduled practice time in which students discuss issues related to their events and prepare for competition. Having the weekly meeting allows students to focus on multiple events without the added stress of multiple practice times.
Other opportunities for Olney UIL include trips to the City View Challenges and the Haskell Pow Wow. These practice tournaments are a wonderful experiences for the team and motivates them to jump-start their competition mentality.
The UIL coaches are also planning a couple of local invitational tournaments. This presents a great opportunity for the community to become involved in the success of Olney's SWAT team. If you would like to be a part of our local tournaments as a judge of facilitator, please contact the High School office. These sessions, while used for intensive training purposes, are also fun and rewarding for the students. The best part of these afternoon meets is that the students are able to prepare and practice in "event" mode without the stresses of real competition.
Finally, we need to recognize the outstanding coaching staff and talented students who crave success in academics. This year is a year of change thanks to these individuals. Good luck to all.
