Welcome back to Olney ISD! I am excited to start a new school year.  This year we want to continue to encourage hand hygiene to prevent the spread of illness. Please continue this practice at home.  Hand washing is the #1 way we can prevent the spread of germs!!

We are also checking records making sure everyone is up to date on their immunizations. This year there are new requirements for K and 7th grade. Notes were sent home at the end of last year. If your student needs immunizations, please get them ASAP. Immunization Requirements

There has been a lot of talk about H1N1 flu or swine flu in the news.  At Olney ISD we are taking the appropriate precautions. Here is some info you may find helpful about the flu. H1N1 Flu Info

Every 10 years it is required for your student to have a Tetnus booster shot.  Currently the DSHS is recommending the Tdap vaccination.  It is the first vaccination for adults which vaccinates for three diseases: tetanus (lockjaw), diptheria, and pertussis (whooping cough).  This vaccination is not only required for students, it is recommended that everyone (including parents) have a booster!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Break.

We are continuing to encourage everyone to be vaccinated against the flu.

Please help me educate your kids about the spread of head lice.  They do not need to share combs, brushes, coats, or hair bows etc.  It is also recommended that they do not pile their coats together. Please let me know if I can help give you more information about treating and or preventing head lice.

Have you been vaccinated against the flu?  The flu shot/vaccine is for use in people 6 months of age and older, including healthy people and people with chronic medical conditions.

We are completing vision and hearing screenings at the elementary school.  If your child does not pass either test, they will be re screened in 2-3 weeks.  If they do not pass the screening again, a note will be sent home referring them to see a doctor.
